Eduardo Kobra & Developing Your Super Powers

A "Super Power" is a particular skill or competency that one excels at - could be Creativity, Tenacity, Problem Solving, Collaboration, Storytelling, Strategic Thinking & Clear Communication or something else? What's yours?

What is Your Super Power and what good does it bring to you and folks around you?

Last week I spent time in Sao Paulo Brazil, meeting with customers, partner and colleagues. I learnt a ton about business challenges and opportunities in the region. One of the most memorable moments was getting a chance to watch Eduardo Kobra and his team working on a series of colorful Murals, right outside my hotel. Eduardo Kobra – is a Brazilian street artist, noted for painting colorful murals, usually depicting portraits with a technique of repeating squares and triangles. He utilizes bright colors and bold lines while staying true to a kaleidoscope theme throughout his art. Clearly one of his Super Powers is to create beautiful images of notable figures – this helps remind us of who these people are and what they stand for. Below are a few pictures I took of the murals I saw in Brazil.

As I reflected on the paintings though, I was reminded of a recent discussion with colleagues. We were each asked to reflect on our “Super Powers” and describe 3 of them to the team. My interpretation of a Super Power – is a particular skill or competency that one excels at. There’s clearly an aspirational aspect to this leadership exercise as well. A number of Super Powers were highlighted during the discussion, including – Creativity, Tenacity, Problem Solving, Collaboration, Storytelling, Strategic Thinking & Clear Communication. I thought about the concept and other Super Powers came to mind – Volunteering, Public Speaking, Entrepreneurship, Networking, Non-Linear Thinking…….. the list goes on.

The great thing about Super Powers – at least in this context, is that we don’t need to be born with them or even have a natural proclivity towards any one of them. We can choose the ones we want to use to make an impact. We can learn and we can Practice until we develop a Super Power level of competency.

So, what is YOUR Super Power? What Hip Pocket Skills, competencies, talents or interests do you have which you could turn into a Super Power? If you have never thought about it, now may be the time to do so. Chances are you’ve got the potential to make a meaningful impact on yourself and others. Think about it.

Below are a few more shots I took of his art work... truly incredible.
